Restart, Redo
I'm redoing this. My first time creating Upstarty.com failed.
Well, maybe failed is too harsh a word.
It was mismanaged.
I started Upstarty.com approximately a year ago, I was brimming with excitement putting a concerted effort into making money online. Like so many others making money online (or claiming that they are) I decided to start my own blog about my money making adventures. A couple problems with that...
- I wasn't making enough money online to really blog about it. I was just another poseur.
- I started Upstarty on a whim, with only a faint idea of what I wanted it to be. I was then forcing myself to write and create content on a flimsy idea, and an idea I just never became comfortable with.
Well, times have changed. I'm happy to report that I am now making a substantial amount of money online. Not only that, but I've made money in a way that I'm proud of. One thing that I was concerned about when I first attempted to make money online was that I would be one of those running PPC campaigns promoting fake blogs that sell snake oil and get the customer into a horrible rebill situation. I didn't. I took the high road that involves a ton of hard work and creativity.
Another thing that concerned me about creating a 'make money online' site was that I didn't want to give away my secrets. Honestly, I'm not planning on revealing all my secrets (niches and specific websites), but I will be revealing methods and practices that have helped me make an income online.
After putting some time in making niche sites I realize just how huge the internet is. I can reveal quite a bit on how I'm doing it and not worry about someone stepping on my toes, because there is just so much out there to cover.
This brings me to the final reason that the original Upstarty failed, and this will be a point that I will bring up again and again...I didn't plan it. Now, I'm a big proponent that if you have a great idea for a website, blog, online app, then get building. However, you need to do a bit of due diligence and planning. When I first started Upstarty I had a flimsy idea that I had to work off of, and it was a terrible idea.
My original plan for Upstarty was that I was going to take the persona of a highly critical, somewhat foul mouthed, 'tell it like it is' blogger. Basically, I was planning on being a douche. But, I didn't want to be a douche, and I found it hard impossible to write in that tone.
In reality, I'm a very nice gentle person. I actually despise conflict, it gives me the burps. So, instead, I do not want to fake it, I just want to be myself. By being myself I'll be more apt to write compellingly and comfortably, unlike last time where approaching the site meant that I'd be putting myself in an uncomfortable situation.
So, there we go, that's it. Well, not entirely, in the next few articles I'll be revealing some more mistakes and solutions.
